Nikola Tesla is the most famous student of the Gymnasium and Karlovac, and the diploma of Karlovac’s Great Royal Academy is also the only diploma he obtained. Karlovac is very important for Tesla’s education and ideas. The diploma he obtained there is the only proof of his formal education. This puts Karlovac among big cities like Graz, Maribor, Budapest, Paris, Strasbourg and New York where the inventor left his mark.
Nikola “became” Tesla in Karlovac thanks to his physics professor Martin Sekulić, whose scientfic experiments where crucial to get the young man interested in electricity.
As Tesla once mentioned, only two persons he was admiring were his mother and his professor Sekulic. Also, in gymnasium there is still a collection of the tools which have been used during Teslas schooling so if you visit Karlovac make sure to see the school where it all began.
